GAL following up drill program with geophysics
Our long term exploration Investment Galileo Mining (ASX: GAL) is running high powered IP surveys to try zone in on drill targets at its nickel-PGE project in WA.
GAL recently ran a round of drilling to the north & south of its existing Callisto discovery - assays from that program are pending and expected in December.
GAL is now following the drilling up with geophysics to work out the best spots to drill in future programs.
GAL expects to have the results back in ~5 weeks time.
What are IP surveys?
IP surveys (geophysics) is one of the most commonly used techniques to help explorers narrow down drilling targets.
At a very high level - companies use machines to send down powerful electromagnetic signals into the ground.
When the signal hits a layer of rock or minerals that conducts electricity (like nickel, copper and other base metals), the signals change and help the company build a model of what might be underground.
Basically it is a way for company’s to narrow down a larger area into smaller high priority areas that can be drilled.
For context - GAL has over ~20km of strike to test at Callisto and ~12km at Mission Sill.
By running geophysics it can narrow down on the highest priority areas of the combined ~32km of strike.

GAL chasing South African Bushveld style discoveries:
With its latest round of drilling, GAL is looking to replicate its Callisto discovery and prove district scale potential for its project.
The reason why GAL’s project could have that district-scale potential is because it's the first “Platreef” style discovery made inside Australia.
That just means it's the first discovery in Australia that has geological similarities to the discoveries across the northern limb of the Bushveld Complex in South Africa - home to companies like ~$15BN Ivanhoe Mines.
The Bushveld complex is believed to be home to around 75% of the world’s known platinum resources.
The similarities between the deposits found in South Africa and GAL’s Callisto are:
- They share the same host rocks - Both are hosted in the same type of rocks (Mostly disseminated sulphides).
- There is district scale exploration potential - the South African deposits come together to form a giant PGE district. GAL still has ~20km of strike to test to the north and south of Callisto AND ~12km of strike at its Mission Sill prospect.
